Forbes is located in the Lachlan Valley on the Central west slopes on New South Wales, 380km west of Sydney and 250km north west of Canberra. Forbes has long been regarded as one of the richest primary producing areas of the state. Forbes also supports active and growing Industrial and Commerical sectors.
The town is rich in history and had many unique features to offer the visitor and locals alike. The tranquility of Lake Forbes and surrounding parkland is a popular area for everyone to enjoy. Forbes is proud of its fine historic buildings in and around the CBD, many of which retain their original appearance.
The districts history dates back to the 1800’s when a colorful period began with the discovery of Gold in 1861. The goldfields attracted tens of thousands of people to the area, the goldfields also attracted those who sought treasure by easier means. Bushrangers Ben Hall, Frank Gardiner and their respective gangs became notorious for their daring robberies in the district.
Today Forbes boasts a shire population of 12,000 and has become a major urban center, providing a pleasant community to visit, live in, work in and enjoy!
